The Videographer/Studio manager will:
• Bring our departmental priorities to life by planning and creating engaging videos and animations that tell our story.
• Play a crucial role in supporting Ministers and Perm Secretary to undertake filming and production: video conferencing, prerecords. livestream events, social media clips with technical skills
• This role will involve supporting Secretary of State and Ministerial events, visits and priorities and willingness to travel and work flexibly according to business need.
• You will create and edit video content tailored for different events and support content for social media platforms. You will be an expert in understanding the nuances of what works on different channels, managing studio kit and broadcast experience. The role will be London based in 2 Marsham Street.
• Champion the positive impact of digital communications, particularly film and animation, and provide expert advice and upskilling across the group in this area
Your main responsibilities will include:
• Managing day-to-day studio production and management
• Develop original visuals for video projects: sourcing footage and designing elements with stakeholders, to create high-quality, shareable digital content that engages our audiences
• Manage the production process from start to finish: conceptualising, coordinating, shooting and editing to final product delivery at pace, ensuring that the outputs meet the brief’s needs, speedy time constraints, quality and budget.
• Shoot and edit both studio and location footage including interviews, pieces to camera, engaging b-roll, and promotional videos for campaigns and events.
• Determine what equipment is required for shoot’s and have an intricate knowledge of camera set-up, lighting and audio. Carry/transport kit when travelling to/from and around locations as required.
• Direct talent including senior leaders, government ministers, stakeholders and VIP guests with confidence, sensitivity and clear creative vision.
• Shoot and edit photography including portraits, groups, presentations and large events.
• Travel for shoots (nationally, occasionally internationally), sometimes multiple times a week as required and at times outside of office hours.
• Design graphics and engaging social media posts bespoke to social platform formats – Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn etc.
• Work on fast-paced briefs, making technical and creative recommendations and presenting ideas for approval or development, explaining clearly and confidently how the creative work will achieve the key outcomes.
• Discuss work schedules and status knowledgeably and confidently.
• Manage multiple projects at a time while paying strict attention to detail and deadlines.
• Work with and foster feedback to develop content.
• Work effectively with other videographers, producers, and social media managers – and colleagues across Defra.
• Keep up with the latest trends in video production and animation and apply to work.

Essential experience and personal skills:

• 5+ years of industry experience, knowledge and skills.
• Professional working knowledge of DSLR cameras and lenses (Sony and Canon experience is a plus).
• Excellent and proven knowledge of digital video production with a thorough understanding of production, studio set up, timeframes and technical delivery – including audio and visual capture, lighting, framing and live streaming.
Excellent knowledge across Adobe Creative Cloud apps, including Premiere Pro, Photoshop and Illustrator (knowledge of After Effects is a bonus).
• Proficient in self-shooting and equipment set-up, including sound and talent direction, and particularly an excellent knowledge of lighting techniques.
• Creative flair, originality, a strong visual sense and ability to challenge where you feel innovation or improvements are needed.
• Proactive and positive attitude and a passion for creating the best possible creative.
• Strong communication and direction skills, bringing out the best from high-profile talent and diverse case studies, both on camera and behind the scenes.
